We’ve another great episode of the School of Hard Knocks Newsletter to share. We sat down with Abdulla Kudrath, AKA the most interesting man on the planet. Over the last decade, AK has not only been an emergency room doctor, but emerged as one of the most prominent entrepreneurs throughout Houston, Texas, by creating over seven companies.

Let’s dive in!🔥

The Most Interesting Man on the Planet

Abdulla Kudrath is a formally trained emergency room doctor with a major entrepreneurial spirit. While he loves being a doctor and working in the ER, he's also built several emergency departments. Additionally, AK started a physician group where he hires other doctors to work in outside hospitals.

Outside of healthcare, AK diversified into several other industries. He has a limo company, an office company, and a Botox and filler company. He's also into real estate development - a true jack of all trades!

AK has been an emergency room doctor for about seven or eight years. The first time he felt the call to transition from doctor to businessman was during a medical trip in East Africa.

He was invited by a small church to visit people in villages and became overwhelmed. AK was just one doctor with a medical bag and felt like he could barely scratch the surface of any real problem as an individual.

However, AK realized that he could make a bigger impact by learning how to build institutions and understand operations. With this new mindset as his guide, AK came back to the states and got to work creating and growing healthcare facilities.

AK is an inspiration for entrepreneurs who want to create wealth and find success no matter what industry they're in. Here are four key takeaways from our conversation:

Health is Wealth

AK says that the most fascinating thing he's learned about people is that no one cares about anything but their health when it's on the line. He's seen patients with millions of dollars tell him they'd trade it all just to be healthy again.

We get caught up in our pursuits of business and money and sometimes our health gets put on the back burner. It's important to create a balance in life as we go after our dreams. We can accomplish great things, but let's not forget that health is wealth, too.

Tough Love

When he got accepted into medical school, AK's father told him it was going to be difficult. He also told him that if he only thinks of himself when the going gets tough, he may feel like giving up. However, if he pursues his goals for his family, community, and the world, he'll always get back up

Achieving our goals becomes so much easier when we do so for a greater purpose. When we think of others along the journey, we're much more resilient in the face of failure.

Accountability = Growth

Another lesson AK learned from his father was to never point fingers. It's easy to find someone to blame when things don't go your way, but blaming yourself keeps you accountable. It's up to you to learn from your mistakes and prevent them from happening again.

Holding yourself accountable is the key to growth. If you never believe you've done anything wrong, you'll never do any better. However, when you put yourself in charge, you have the power to change a situation and move forward.

Challenges Accepted

AK says entrepreneurial challenges depend on which phase of the journey you're in.

The first challenge is acquiring the knowledge and money to get started. Then, you have to become the kind of person who won't squander away what you've earned. You have to be the right kind of person to accept the responsibility of success to stay in business.

Later on when the stakes are higher, the challenge shifts to knowing how to diversify. You have to know how to take calculated risks to take on those bigger bets. Once you start making millions, you may face the challenge of choosing retirement or choosing to keep going.

No matter what, it's important to find balance in life and put your family and relationships first.
